DESCRIPTION
In the center of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, in southern Burgundy, the estate « Domaine la Soufrandise », with its six hectares, is small, but its strength lies in the age of the vines (half of them are more than 45 years old), and in the multitude of different plots of vineyards (more than 20); so many « climats », so many possibilities of blending or selection. The soil favorable with Chardonnay, thus make of it an estate specialized in making of white high-class wines.
The estate is managed with a constant effort to treat the vines, the harvest and the wines, with respect in order to obtain an authentic expression of the « terroir ».
The estate’s house was built in 1831 on the site of the old hospice of Fuissé, from where the origin of the name, the suffering of the patients … and the weakness for noble local nectar! It is a former major of the guard of Napoléon, allured by the place and enchanted by the wine, who undertook this building site not less exhausting than the campaigns of his emperor, since he sold in 1853 the property to ascendants of the current owner (sixth generation).
This estate is characteristic of the Burgundian traditional domain small size. Nicolas Melin took over the family property in 1986. Supported by his wife Françoise, they follow the development of the wine since the vine to the bottle. It is the guarantee of a product elaborate and followed in its entirety without delegation of responsibility.
As the seventh generation of Melins to farm this land, Nicolas is a past master at the subtle art of combining different cuvées to create the most harmonious blend.
